Rendering image of implant bridgeAre you tired of your dentures? We understand. On the one hand, you are thankful that you have had them because they allow you to eat your favorite foods and smile without a problem. But we also know that dentures can have limitations, and they may not function the way that you want them to. There are options available for patients, called a dentures to implant bridge. Let Fay Periodontal Associates give you more information about moving from dentures to implants.

Difference Between Dentures and Implants

Implants differ from dentures. Dentures have been used for longer than implants. In fact, dentures have been used for centuries to replace natural teeth that are lost due to illness or injury. Dentures are an effective substitute for teeth. They can be made from plastic or acrylic as well as porcelain teeth. Each set of dentures fits one patient and his or her mouth. Like dentures, implants are a prosthetic solution to tooth loss. Implants screw into your mouth. You don’t have to remove them daily, the way you do dentures. Dentures are placed on top of your gums with an adhesive. You remove them each night before you go to sleep.

The Problem with Dentures

While dentures are a great solution to missing teeth, they are not for everyone. Many of our patients do well with dentures, because they now have teeth that function much like normal teeth do. For some of our patients, dentures are not a good solution. Their dentures may rub against their gums, and they cause painful sores. There are some patients who have trouble getting their dentures to fit properly, which means they slip and slide around. Because the dentures don’t fit properly, our patients feel self-conscious. They don’t want to go out in public with their dentures because they are embarrassed. Some of our patients don’t want dentures, because it makes them feel old. Lots of our patients want an alternative to dentures.

Am I a Good Candidate?

If you are missing teeth, you may want to consider getting dental implants. Dental implant bridges may be a good alternative for you instead of dentures. Some of our patients love implants, because they represent a permanent solution. These patients feel that implants are better looking than traditional dentures. Implants are also better for your teeth over time. That’s because implants anchor directly into your jaw, which makes your jaw think that there are teeth there. Your jaw continues to have regular blood flow, and your jawbone stays strong, rather than losing bone mass.
